Human Rights Commission by Russian President’s Council Opposes Arrests of Belarusian Oppositionists 13:31, 22/12/2006
Co-chairmen of the public human rights Russian-Belarusian commission by the Council of Russian president on promotion of human rights and civil society institutions are concerned over prosecution of political and public activists in Belarus. “We are extremely concerned over constant criminal prosecution of political and civil opponents of the current regime in Belarus,” the statement signed by the co-chairmen of the commission Sergei Karaganov and Valery Pavlov reads.
“Fate of Alyaksandr Kazulin, (an imprisoned former candidate for presidency in Belarus) and of other imprisoned regime’s opponents proves that such show trials cannot be excused by some political expedience and a desire of stability in the country,” the authors underline.
