Alyaksandr Milinkevich: Lukashenka’s Foreign Policy of Belarus is Total Failure
15:41, 04/01/2007

The leader of he democratic forces of Belarus Alyaksandr Milinkevich believes that statements by Alyaksandr Lukashenka and introduction of export duty for Russian oil are evidence of a total failure of Belarusian foreign policy. “The economic conflict of Russia and Belarus is a demonstration of a total failure of Belarus’ foreign policy based on lies,” Alyaksandr Milinkevich told to Echo Moskvy radio.

“Belarusian economy cannot bear new gas prices, but I do not think it is Gazprom’s fault,” he said. “Receiving super-cheap energy for many years in a row, the regime had to get prepared the economy for market relations, but it hadn’t done that”.

As said by Milinkevich, the reaction of Belarusian citizens for A. Lukashenka’s initiatives depends on the degree of their awareness about the recent events. He admitted that people, who are watching the national TV only, think that Russia is to blame for everything, as there is no independent information as a vehicle of the current policy’s propaganda.
