Yaraslau Ramanchuk: “Anything Can be Expected in Belarusian-Russian Relations” 16:33, 04/01/2007
A well-known Belarusian economist, director of the Belarusian Mises Research Center, Yaraslau Ramanchuk, in his interview to Radio Svaboda comments on a possible situation after imposing taxes for Russian oil transit.
“When emotions have swept off scale, anything could be expected in Belarusian-Russian relations, even nationalization of gas and oil pipes. It means that in the interpretation of the Belarusian government the things that cost cents would cost 10 dollars.
A real, not only verbal war between the governments of Belarus and Russia has started. One cannot find any logics here. The head of the Belarusian state does not know what to do. He has fallen into a rage. That is why we are to observe how mister Lukashenka would ruin with his own proper hands the things he had been creating for the last ten years. And at some stage he is to get into a situation when there would be no recourses for struggle,” Ramanchuk said.
