A well-known human rights activist Valery Schukin has been released today from a remand prison in Vitsebsk. On December 30 the human rights activist was sentenced to 7 days of arrest for an attempt to take part in the closed session of the regional court which studied complaints of candidates which hadn’t been registered.
The human rights activist celebrated the New Year in a remand prison. As Valery Schukin told to the Charter’97 press-center, watches of all prisoners are seized in the remand prison, that is why he learnt about the New Year hearing the salute.
Valery Schukin was not given bedclothes until January 3, because many workers of the remand prison were on holiday, and human rights activist had to sleep on bare plank-bed.
