Yelena Medvedeva, a member of the Belarusian Social Democratic Party "Hramada" running in the local elections in Bobruisk, Mogilyov region, was detained by police for several hours on Sunday.
She told BelaPAN that policemen had approached her at a bus stop and ordered her to follow them to a nearby police station without giving an explanation of the detention. At the police station, officers reportedly searched the woman`s bag in the presence of two witnesses and seized three leaflets, including one that featured the opposition`s slogan "For Freedom."
In connection with the seizure, the officers drew up a charge sheet, which Ms. Medvedeva refused to sign. The woman was held at the police station for two hours.
