Yesterday evening the leader of the United Civil Party Anatol Lyabedzka was detained by police again. His agent Antanina Kavalyova was taken to the police department of Savetski district of Minsk together with him.
As the press-service of the party informs, yesterday evening politicians went to the hostel of trolleybus depot No.5 in Kulman Street, 35 to hand out leaflets of the candidate for deputy Anatol Lyabedzka, and to meet with voters. Deputy director of the trolleybus deport Vasil Shrubok stated that the candidate may not legally hand out agitation leaflets.
Antanina Kavalyova addressed members of the district election commission which is located in the same hostel. They phoned the election commission of Savetski district and were told there that until January 13 candidates for deputies have a right to campaign. A representative of the election commission told so to Vasil Shrubok, however he called in police.
It was the second time Lyabedzka was taken to the police department of Savetski district yesterday. In the noon he was detained near Kamarouski market, when he was distributing his campaign leaflets and Regional Development program of the UCP. A report was drawn up against him for violation of the Article 172 of the Administrative Code for distribution of printed materials which contents is aimed at damaging state and public order and legal interests of citizens. The Regional Development program of the UCP was seized by police.
The UCP leader was released after providing explanations. But Anatol Lyabedzka and Antanina Kavalyova have written an application to the head of the police department of Savetski district. They wrote that trolleybus depot director Vasil Shrubok prevented them from exercising their rights under the Electoral Code of Belarus. The candidate for deputy and his agent ask to bring to account the director of the trolleybus depot and to inform them about measures taken.
