During Detention Riot Policemen Beat Up Ales Kalita Till Unconscious 14:43, 15/01/2007
The Charter`97 press-center has been informed about details of detention of the Moladz BNF leader Ales Kalita. According earlier reports, Ales Kalita was detained in the police department of Frunzenski district when he tried to find out anything about the BPF Youth activist Anastasiya Aleksandrovich detained previously. At today`s court human rights activists have learnt that Ales Kalita was detained by riot policemen near the college of lawyers of Savetski district of Minsk. He was about to settle a contract with a lawyer for legal assistance to Anastasiya Aleksandrovich.
Riot policemen Shaparenka and Labkouski were carrying out the detention. They seized the activist brutally and threw him into a police UAZ car. Two more riot policemen were in the car. Their names are still unknown. The young leader was brutally beaten up in the car until he fell unconscious.
In the police department of Savetski district of Minsk with the help of sal ammoniac the activist was brought round. In the office of the investigator he was handcuffed to a chair.
When he was taken bad again, policemen had to call in an ambulance. In the 9th hospital of Minsk Ales Kalita was diagnosed "head, chest and lower leg`s soft tissue bruises". He was recommended to consult a surgeon. However, from the police department Ales Kalita was taken back to the police department of Savetski district of Minsk. Then he was placed to a remand prison in Akrestsyn street.
At today`s trial the young activist was charged with violation of the Article 156 of Administrative Code (petty hooliganism). The same riot policemen, Shaparenka and Labkouski alledged that Kalita cursed in their presence. The judge of Savetski district of Minsk Sevastyan hasn’t taken into consideration that the activist was beaten up by policemen, and ignored the conclusion of doctors.
