Movie about the Belarusian "Ploscha" was watched in Warsaw (Photo) 17:52, 17/01/2007
Presentation of the Yuri Khaschevatsky`s "Ploscha" documentary was held in the frame of the Solidarity Day on 16 January in Warsaw. The presentation was organized by the Union for Support of Democracy in Belarus. The action took place in "Remont", a famous students` club. The first night was attended not only by young spectators but also by grown-ups. That seemed to be unexpected by the organizers . And there were many Poles together with Mirek Dembinsky, famous polish documentary director, among the spectators as the documentary was supplied with subtitles in Polish. Recently Mirek Dembinsky presented his "Belarusian Lesson" documentary about the March 2006 events in Minsk.
Hundreds of Belarusians living in Warsaw as well as Poles attended the first night. It is to be mentioned that among the Poles interested in Belarus the name "Ploscha Kalinouskaga" itself is familiar- at least if this name is pronounced, it is clear what the thing is about.
After the movie was over people didn`t leave and started discussing the documentary and its characters. They were interested where they could get this movie. One of the Minsk action participants which studies now in Warsaw remarked "We should stop treating the elections as the tragedy showing painfully familiar pictures. This state power should be laughed at the way Khaschevatsky has done it. His movie charges us with optimism. I`m sure, we `ll succeed."
As far as other Polish cities and towns are concerned, the actions of solidarity were taken in nine of them. It is interesting that every time –and the actions with families of the disappeared and repressed Belarusians have been held for more than a year – the organizers create something different.
For example, in Vrotslav on 16 January, after the picket, the acoustic concert of Belarusian music took place and in Pultusk, a town not far from Warsaw where Belarusian students live in the students` hostels the light was turned off in the rooms and candles were lighted at the windowsills.
