Russia`s FSB: Terrorists may enter Russia from Belarus 17:08, 24/01/2007
Russian-Belarusian "porous" border can be used by terrorists for penetrating the Russian Federation, Russian Border Service head Vladimir Pronichev said.
"Russia`s border with Belarus is virtually unguarded. This is a hole used by citizens of third countries to illegally enter Russian territory," the official said during a `parliamentary hour` at the Federation Council on Wednesday.
This channel could be used by terrorist groups’ members, and for criminal ends, he said.
Belarus has maintained visa-free regimes with CIS countries, with which Russia maintains a visa regime. In particular, this concerns Georgia.
As said by Russian Border Service head, last year “dozens of attempts” of Georgian citizens to enter Russia illegally via this channel have been prevented.
