Baranavichy: Prosecutor’s Office Legalizes Police Actions during Search of Viktar Syrytsa’s Apartment

Viktar Syrytsa has informed HRC Viasna about receiving an answer from Baranavichy city prosecutor’s office and Baranavichy city police department concerning his complaint about illegal actions of the police during a search of his apartment.

In its answer the prosecutor’s office informed the activist that the search was held with legal grounds, no violations in the actions of the police were found and therefore no measures of prosecutorial reaction would be taken. At the same time, the prosecutor’s office obliged the chair of Baranavichy city police department to return all items, documents and material valuables that were exacted from Mr. Syrytsa during the search.

In the answer from the police department, signed by its chairman, lieutenant-colonel A.Sakuta, it is stated that a check-up on the facts described in Syrytsa’s complaint was conducted. It showed that during the search the policemen were guided by the norms of the criminal-process code and no violations of the legal norms in their actions were found.
