Kazulin can submit all proofs to van der Linden 15:44, 26/01/2007
Former candidate for the presidency in 2006, leader of the Socio-Democratic Party (Gramada) Alyaksandr Kazulin is ready to submit the documents concerning his imprisonment for their international expertise. He announced this fact during his meeting with lawyer Igar Rinkevich on January 25.
As Igar Rinkevich informed the BelaPAN, during their meeting Kazulin thanked Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACU) Rene van der Linden for his intention to meet with Kazulin.” The fact that the authorities didn’t allow the meeting proves another time that the authorities have something to conceal. If the PACU doubts political motivations of my imprisonment, I am ready to provide any document demanded by the PACU,” Igar Rinkevich worded Alyaksandr Kazulin.
Moreover, according to the lawyer, Alyaksandr Kazulin doubts the intention of the Belarusian authorities to accept the Rene van der Linden’s proposition of the international expertise of the cases, which are considered as politically motivated in Europe. “But even the authorities’ refusal will mean that they confirm the availability of political prisoners in the country,” declared Alyaksandr Kazulin.
According to Igar Rinkevich, the policymaker joint the open appeal of the leaders of the entrepreneurs’ movement and Belarusian human rights defenders, which was submitted to Rene van der Linden during his meeting with Alyaksandr Kazulin’s spouse Irina Kazulina. “That is a very important instance –the Belarusian civil society turns its face to Europe. And I support Europe’s intension to promote Belarus’ entering the Council of Europe”, Alyaksandr Kazulin pointed out in his conversation with the laywer.
Alyaksandr Kazulin also thanked the general secretary of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) Ronald Poffala and Mari Louise Beck, the Bundestag deputy from the Green party, for their support. “During my visit to Germany Poffala presented me with a piece of the Berlin wall. I still remember that, and here, in prison, the present has become specifically symbolic to me,” Alyaksandr Kazulin said.
As Igar Rinkevich remarked, now Alyaksandr Kazulin’s lawyers are preparing a claim for the Supreme Court and afterwards they are intending to submit all the documents for the international expertise and, subsequently, to the UNO Council on human rights. “Thus, whether the authorities like it or not, all the documents concerning Alyaksandr Kazulin’s case will be received by the international experts” Igar Rinkevich remarked.
