Russian TV Channels Show Parts from Films “Square” and “Ordinary President” (Video) 18:13, 29/01/2007
Yesterday Channel One (Russia) in its evening news broadcast commented new statements by Lukashenka about a possibility to annul recent gas and oil agreements with Russia. In the coverage Russian reporters used clips from documentaries of a well-known Belarusian filmmaker Yury Khaschavatski, “Ploscha” (“The Square”) and “An Ordinary President”.
Footage of mass protest rallies after the election in March 2006 from the film “The Square” was demonstrated by the Russian TV channel.
Footage of Lukashenka’s interview to a German newspaper Handelsblatt was broadcast by Channel One. “Not everything that was connected to a certain Adolph Hitler in Germany was bad. Remember his rule in Germany. The German order had grown over centuries. Under Hitler this process reached its culmination. This is perfectly in line with our understanding of a presidential republic and of the role of its president,” Lukashenka said.
Most of Belarusian viewers haven’t been able to watch these items, as Belarusian ONT channel does not retransmit news programmes of Channel One any more. Only subscribers of “Cosmos-TV” could watch it.
