British embassy introduces online visa applications
14:46, 30/01/2007

The British Embassy in Minsk is pleased to announce a new online application service for travellers who require a visa to enter the United Kingdom.

The British Embassy in Minsk has, since 12 December 2006, been piloting on-line visa applications. The service is now available to all customers on our website: www.britain.by.

Announcing the introduction of online applications, HE Mr Brian Bennett, the British Ambassador said:

“I am delighted to introduce this new service to our visa customers. I am confident it will ease the visa application process and reduce the time customers will spend at the Embassy.”

Under the online system to apply for a UK visa a customer will only have to follow three simple steps:

1. Make the application: a straightforward online form allows the customer to submit all their details. After saving and submitting the application, an email acknowledgement and reference number is issued for future reference.

2. Make the interview appointment: when the online application has been submitted the customer will be asked to book an interview at the Embassy at a time and date of their convenience.

3. Attend the Embassy for interview: the customer needs to attend the Embassy in person for the scheduled interview. After paying the visa fee an interview will take place and a decision will be given to the customer.

The new system has the advantage of ensuring customers spend the minimum amount of time necessary at the Embassy. Instead they will be able to choose a time and date for interview to maximise their convenience.

Despite the lack of prior publicity we are already finding that some 50% of applications are being submitted online.

Applications for entry clearance under the ECAA (European Community Association Agreement) cannot be submitted online but will continue to be accepted in person.
