Iryna Kazulina to Demand Her Husband’s Examination by Independent Doctors
17:37, 01/02/2007

Dietary regime has been prolonged for Alyaksandr Kauzlin, a former candidate for presidency, the leader of the Belarusian Social Democratic party (Hramada), who is serving a sentence in a corrective labour colony Vitsba-3, until February 15. It has been said by his wife Iryna Kazulina at a press-conference today. She is set to demand independent doctor’s examination for her husband.

As we have informed, on January 27-30 I. Kazulina was in the colony and had a long-term meeting with her husband.

“It was the first normal meeting for 10 months. Only three days before our arrival Kazulin started to go out. For almost 40 days after the hunger strike he remained at bed rest. He is still advised not to work and keep diet,” I. Kazulina said.

As said by her, such regime was order by the administration of the colony on the recommendation of doctors. He submits blood tests, his pressure one`s pulse rate are taken. Proceeding from their results, doctors recommend a regime for A. Kazulin.

“I am afraid that the administration of the colony could change the regime for a usual one. It is impossible to eat prison food at all, people eat it just not to die of hunger. It is impossible to eat this food, and esoecially after a long hunger strike,” I. Kazulina said.

She is to insist on medical examination of Alyaksandr Kazulin by independent doctors. “I am going to address the International Red Cross, and I will address German Embassy again. Its representatives have already offered to send their doctor to the colony to test A. Kazulin’s health. It is extremely important that independent doctors to look after my husband’s health,” I. Kazulina said.
