Belarusian Ruler Dreams about Spacefaring Power

Belarus is to become a spacefaring power, having probably more than one spacecraft and being absolutely autonomous in these satellites’ control. Alyaksandr Lukashenka has stated that today at consultations on the issue of creation of a space system of remote sensing.

“If we can do that, there is no doubt we must, but under one condition, that the whole resource of such space system should be used and pay off,” the leader of the state said.

As said by Alyaksandr Lukashenka, before adopting a decision on further development of space industry in Belarus, one should determine the market for sale of products. “Our space system should be called for by a certain group of states to bring considerable income. This sphere is extremely important, it would promote development of science, high technologies and bring money for the country,” Lukashenka said.

Alyaksandr Lukashenka is positive that to have own ground control in the interests of Belarus.

“If we construct and launch our own spaceship, or even more spaceships, it is in the interests of Belarus to have its own ground control. Today the existing ground control complex includes not only a Belarusian part, but a considerable Russian part. The question is, are we to work as we have decided before, or to create our own complex,” the head of the state underlined.

Alyaksandr Lukashenka has stated the necessity to modernize and re-equip Belarusian enterprises and organizations that would perform orders for creating space equipment for Belarus and other countries.

As said by Lukashenka, the current situation in Belarusian economy and in relations with Russia could require some amendments to plans of space industry development in our country.

The head of the state noted a necessity to discuss real opportunities of the country in detail and to work out optimal plans in the space industry. Alyaksandr Lukashenka has underlined that to analyze the situation objectively and give appraisal to different variants of cosmic program is essential.

Belarus is to consider any offers for investment and development of space industry, Alyaksandr Lukashenka said.
