Supreme Court Can Close Party of Communists of Belarus
14:11, 05/02/2007

Examination of the claim on suspending activates of the Party of Communists of Belarus (PCB) is to start in the Supreme Court of Belarus on February 5. The suit on suspending activities of the PCB had been initiated by justice ministry.

Earlier the Justice Ministry stated that during an examination of PCB activities Justice Ministry many times demanded documents on the number of the party members; however the party failed to submit them. The Justice Ministry issued a written warning for that. The Justice Ministry stated that after a written warning required documents hadn’t been submitted again within a due term.

“Justice Ministry warned the leadership of the party about possible consequences of illegal activities. However the party continues to ignore legislation and does not perform any actions which would show that the party had returned within the limits of the legal framework,” the press-service of Justice Ministry stated.

The first secretary of the Party of Communists of Belarus Syarhei Kalyakin noted that to him mind, “the case concerning suspension of the activities of the party must be stopped, as there are no legal causes for it”. As said by him, he possesses a letter from Justice Ministry stating that “everything is in order as concerning the number of the party members”.

At the same time, the leader of the party notes that he is ready “for any turn of events” during the trial.
