The Supreme Court terminated the case against the PCB 17:55, 05/02/2007
The Supreme Court of Belarus terminated the case against the Party of Communists Belarusian, the Radio Svaboda reports. Such decision was made after the official representative of the ministry of justice Alyaksandr Khariton announced that the new circumstances had appeared in the case and the ministry was going to expand the claim.
Chairman of the PCB Syargei Kalyakin insisted on hearing of the case because he had A viewpoint that “the new circumstances had nothing to do with the case”
The ministry claims on termination of activities of the Party of Communists Belarusian. The conflict between the ministry and oppositional communists has been going on since July 2006. The party was demanded to submit the list of its members to the ministry for it to verify if there are one thousand members in the party. According to the present legislation, this is the minimum number necessary for the party to be registered in Belarus. The ministry of justice reports that around 200 hundred signatures out of a thousand and half checked signatures were considered invalid.
On February 2 the oppositional communists brought the claim to the Minsk city court and the department of justice of the Minsk executive council which three times had refused to register the city organization of the party. The availability of the city organization is an obligatory demand for the political party in compliance with the new law “On political parties’.
