Lukashenka Endues His Son with Vast Power in Security Council 13:48, 05/02/2007
In the end of the last week Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s press-service informed about steps of the head of the state on de-bureaucratization of his own administration. In line with the decree of the head of the state reduced the number of workers in his administration. He dismissed five persons. However, to make this news more precise, the presidential administration has been reduced by five workers, while 2 more persons have been employed by the Security Council of Belarus. Two employees of the presidential administration were transferred to the Security Council for assisting Viktar Lukashenka, “Ezhednevnik” informs today.
As we have informed, president’s aide on national security, Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s son Viktar, had been officially introduced into the Security Council on January 5, 2007 by presidential decree No.3. Bo comments of the press-service of the president followed. Nobody has explained the scope of duties of president’s son in the Security Council. Unofficial comments pointed at two opinions: either Alyaksandr Lukashenka is starting to prepare a successor, or he does not trust anybody but his son. And circumstantial facts show that Viktar Lukashenka wouldn’t play a dummy role in the Security Council.
By presidential decree No.58 of January 30, 2007, under which presidential Administration reduced by five employees, two employees are transferred to the “State Secretariat of the Security Council of Belarus for providing for activities of president’s aide on national security”. This facts allow to draw an exact conclusion that Viktar Lukashenka is not an ordinary member of the Security Council, but is a member of its Secretariat, and is likely to perform a role of a “grey eminence” by Viktar Shejman.
It is worth mentioning that Decree No.58 has a section 2.2 “For Official Use Only”. It is possible that it covers Viktar Lukashenka’s specific duties which are not open public.
