Barys Zhaliba: “Rows with Belarus Compromise Russia” 17:19, 06/02/2007
As said by economy doctor Barys Zhaliba, Russia is worried by Belarus’ reliability as a partner in oil transit.
“Certainly Russia would try and is trying to create indirect ways of oil delivery. It is a costly project. Belarus is obviously dissatisfied, Poland is dissatisfied, as they are losing their part of profit as transit countries. Main oil flows Russia could direct via the Baltic pipeline.
Russia could be understood as well. Rows with Belarus and Ukraine compromise it as a reliable oil supplier. In any moment Ukraine or Belarus or other countries could increase tariffs for pumping oil or gas. It’s their right. But it makes the situation unstable for Russia,” the economist said to Radio Svaboda.
As we have informed, Russian company Transneft expressed a wish to build export oil pipeline Bypassing Belarus. It would prevent risks from transit countries for Russia.
