Justice Ministry Does Not Insist on Liquidation of communist Party So Far 18:11, 06/02/2007
The Justice Ministry of Belarus would not demand liquidation of the party of Communists of Belarus (PCB) at present, told Justice Minister Viktar Halavanau at a press-conference in Minsk. “We are not posing a question about the party liquidation at this point,” he said.
However the minister has noted that “the party is flying over an abyss all the time,” Interfax reports.
Now a suit of the Justice Ministry concerning liquidation of the party of Communists of Belarus remains under consideration of the Supreme Court of Belarus.
In this connection Minister noted that “for a long time the party ignored the law, refused to give information about the number of its members, and an official warning was issued to it”.
“After that the PCB submitted information which is untrue. More than 200 persons out of the list of the party members are not actually its members. There are facts of including dead and underage citizens into the list of the party members,” the minister said.
The first secretary of the PCB Syarhei Kalyakin has stated that to his mind claims of the Justice Ministry are “legally ungrounded”. As said by him, he has a letter from the Justice Ministry stating that “everything is in order as concerning the number of the party members”.
At the same time, the leader of the party notes that he is ready “for any turn of events” during the trial.
