Rubinau: Belarusian goods are turned out of Russian markets
15:05, 07/02/2007

Oil and gas price hike initiated by the Russian authorities for Belarus was aimed at decreasing competitiveness of Belarusian goods, Anatol Rubinau, first-deputy head of administration of president of Belarus, declared in his speech at the general session of the National Academy of Sciences in Minsk. ” Russia definitely behaved unfriendly towards Belarus, not like its ally. More precisely, not Russia but its authorities”, A.Rubinau remarked.

According to him, the price for power sources established for Belarus at a level considerably higher than the Russian one is” an absolutely non-market method of administrative pressure aimed at turning out Belarusian goods of Russian markets”. The first-deputy head of administration pointed out that “Russia with all its wealth is incapable of withstanding gas price raise of no more than 15%. And the gas prices for Belarus have been doubled”, Interfax reports.

Rubinau also stressed that Russia was historically responsible for Belarus. He explained that he meant the industrial potential, which Belarus had acquired after the USSR collapse and which had been oriented at cheep power sources within the USSR.

He is also certain that after the USSR collapse it would have been fair if Belarus had got proportional access to oil and gas mining.

A.Rubinau also stressed that “uncovered economic aggression of Russia towards Belarus have got an adverse effect - the people have united even more tightly around the president of Belarus.”
“It became clear to everybody: it is Lukashenka who can guarantee the existence of a sovereign and independent state and he as a guarantor of independence became a target for Russia’s attack”, A Rubinau declared.
