Concert dedicated to St. Valentine’s Day was banned 16:45, 08/02/2007
The concert, which had been due on the eve of the St. Valentine’s Day, 13 February, was banned. Management of the House of Writers where the performance was to take place grounded the prohibition on technical reasons. The action organizers, commission on culture of the BNF party and friends of the “For Freedom “company, consider the prohibition as politically motivated.
The organizers wanted to combine several events: in addition to the St.. Valentine’s Day they intended to mark Kastus Kalinousky’s birthday which is due in February and to make the disk presentation of bard Syarzhuk Sokalau-Voiush. The application for the hall renting had been adopted, but today management of the House of Writers has informed that the arrangement was annulled, one of the organizers Franak Vyachorka reported to Radio Svaboda.
”Today I was informed by the office manager of the House of Writers that the decision was made at he highest level not to hold any performances in the state institutions on 13-14 February”, the activist reported. Famous writers, bards, ensembles of historical music were to take part in the literary and musical party. A theatrical performance dedicated to Kastus Kalinousky was also envisaged along with the presentation of the documentary about the Belarusian resistance of the 20-th century. The organizers have announced that the performance is going to be held after its place and format have been agreed upon.
