Imported goods price hike in Minsk 16:44, 08/02/2007
The Minsk City Council resolution has become effective since 1 February. In compliance with the resolution the tax on imported goods sales raised from 5% to 15%. It means that we are going to face a 10% price raise.
The price raise won’t affect only imported leather shoes, natural fur, meat, poultry, sausage, ham, tinned meat, and milk and dairy products. Prices of imported chocolate and confectionaries will not change because the imposed tax was 15% earlier.
Apart from imported goods the national services have also become more expensive. Restaurants, bars and beauty parlors’ services tariffs have increased by 5 % (from 5% to 10%). The reasons of the present price hike were not explained at the City Council. A supposed reason is power sources price raise, which might have affected the city budget. Imported goods price hike might compensate the losses incurred.
Strange as it may seem, but in spite of the disagreements with Russia, Russian goods are not to be considered as imported. Their prices have remained unchanged.
