«Gazeta Wyborcza»: «Will Round Table in Belarus?» 16:28, 08/02/2007
Today Polish press writes about the proposal of Alyaksandr Milinkevich to Alyaksandr Lukashenka to start a dialogue for the sake of the country’s good. “Will there be a round table in Belarus?” reads the article in the «Gazeta Wyborcza».
The article in detail tells about the initiative of Alyaksandr Milinkevich, who has called upon the authorities of Belarus for a “talaka [collective work] for the sake of Belarus” and agreed to use his international standing in the international arena, and among other things, to help in improving relations with the West, Radio Svaboda informs.
The daily emphasizes that after fulfilling certain conditions by the regime (primarily democratisation of the social life) Milinkevich promised “to address Westerns countries personally with an appeal to resume economic and political contacts with Belarus”.
“Gazeta Wyborcza” and a number of other Polish media note that to re-establish contacts with the West Alyaksandr Lukashenka is to agree for holding free elections, releasing political prisoners and allowing freedom of expression.
