Alyaksandr Milinkevich Met New President of European Parliament 11:02, 09/02/2007
In Brussels Alyaksandr Milinkevich met a new chair of the European parliament Hans-Gerd Poettering. In the conversation with the leader of the united democratic forces of Belarus, the president of the European parliament noted that the European Parliament is a supporter of all citizens of Belarus, who are fighting for human rights, freedom and democracy in their country.
“The European Parliament is to do everything in power for the citizens of Belarus on a par with citizens of the united Europe could enjoy all freedoms which are a daily reality in the European Union,” Hans-Gerd Poettering said.
The president of the European Parliament has also expressed certitude that democracy’s victory in Belarus is “just a matter of time”.
“Belarus belongs to the family of the European nations. Citizens of your country have a right for freedom. We condemn the policy of intentional violation of human rights and disrespect to basic freedoms, pursued by the regime in Minsk. I am deeply convinced that a victory of democracy in Belarus is just a matter of time,” the chair of the European Parliament said to Alyaksandr Milinkevich.
Hans-Gerd Poettering has also passed words of support to Alyaksandr Milinkevich and in his person to all democratic opposition, and wished strength in the further struggle for returning Belarus to the path of democracy.
As we have informed, on February 8 Alyaksandr Milinkevich was on a one-day visit in Brussels. In the framework of the Study day on Belarus in the European Parliament in Brussels organized by the European People’s Party (the EPP-ED Group), the leader of the united democratic forces had a number of important meetings and talks with the leadership of the European parliament.
