Mikhail Myasnikovich regrets his not supporting US once
15:50, 09/02/2007

“To put it mildly, Russia has acted in a very indecorous and unprincipled way towards Belarus,” the chairman of the presidium of the Academy of Science of Belarus, a former head of the presidential administration Mikhail Myasnikovich, speaking about his attitude towards the problem of energy recourses. “I mean, not exactly Russia, but certain officials. And politicians agreed to that… I think it is not right. There are values that cannot be evaluated by dollars and rubles.

I can say another thing. In 1992 I was present at one important meeting in Kyiv. A question about transporting oil and gas from Azerbaijan, Iran and other countries to Europe bypassing Russia was discussed. Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia and Azerbaijan were taking part in the session. The US were presiding the meeting. But the Belarusians were supporting the Russian vector then. And now I am starting to think that we have been viewing the prospects of political relations rather primitively then…

To say the truth, I hadn’t been expecting such an outcome of union relations from the Russian side… It is painful for me, more than for anybody else, as I have been working on all those agreements, contracts and so on… Equal conditions and equal rights are basic principles of our agreements. But it turns out that it is possible to ignore the signed and ratified documents, and put some private interests higher than all these things…

I think that in this situation it is better for us to make our meaning perfectly plain,” Myasnikovich said.
