United Civil Party Discusses Possibility of Dialogue with Authorities 16:08, 13/02/2007
A possibility of a dialogue with the regime was one of the main topics of the session of the Political council of the United Civil party held in Minsk on February 10. The Political Council of the UCP has evaluated the preset situation as a promising one, however noted that the new opportunities are not used by reform supporters.
“There is a new quality to the situation, but it is not to a platter on which the negotiations process is to be presented. The way to a possible dialogue lies through demonstration on one’s power and changes’ adherents potential, and not through magical words addressed to the ruler. If we want the Red House to listen to us, we should bring at least several dozens of thousands people to its walls,” told the leader of the UCP Anatol Lyabedzka.
The Political Council has made a conclusion that “consultations on the method of interaction of the regime and reforms supporters are possible only in the conditions of moratorium on repressions against its opponents imposed by the regime”.
