Policemen Detain Young Front Activists 18:03, 14/02/2007
A young activist Syarhei Lisichonak has been taken from his apartment for an interrogation by KGB officers. As the human rights center Viasna has been informed by the wife of the young activist, KGB officers arrived to their apartment and handed Syarhei Lisichonak a writ for an interrogation in a criminal case brought up against Young Front activists Zmitser Khvedaruk and Aleh Korban for “activities on behalf of an unregistered organization”.
As we have informed, last year Syarhei Lisichonak was a suspect in the criminal case on charges relating Article 193 part 1 pf the Criminal Code of Belarus (illegal activities of a public association, religious organization or foundation, or participation in their activities) which had been brought up in spring of 2006 against four young activists, Zmitser Dashkevich, Aleh Korban, Barys Haretski and Syarhei Lisichonak. However the case was dismissed then.
Besides, an activist of the Young Front Ludmila Akulava has been detained in Minsk, the Young Front press-service informs. A girl was forcibly detained near her front door.
It should be added that at the moments policemen are observed near the building where Nasta Palazhanka, a Young Front activists lives.
Unknown are trying to enter the apartment of Alyaksei Yanusheuski, a Young Front activist. They are saying they are policemen, Radio Svaboda informs. Alyaksei’s associates believe that the illegal actions of the law-enforcing agencies are aimed at thwarting today’s rally on St. Valentine’s Day, which is to take place on Freedom Square at 6 p.m.
