16 February the sixteenth action solidarity with the Belarusian political prisoners, families of the disappeared opposition members and all those fighting for freedom and democracy in Belarus was held in Washington at the Belarusian embassy. The action was organized by the “Poglyad” initiative activists. The ”We Remember” civil initiative representatives, Belarusian students studying in the USA, The Belarusan-American Association representatives took part in it together with 39 people from New York who came to Washington just to participate in the action.
The ambassador of Slovakia in the USA, representatives of the “Marshal”s foundation as well as those who had participated in presentation of “Reclaiming Democracy” book of Pavel Dzemesh and Yorg Forbrig, which was held not far from the place of the picket, welcomed the demonstrators.
This time the picket was organized right at the gates to the embassy. The embassy’s employees were given a good chance to read all the posters:”Freedom to Political Prisoners!» ”Lukashenka, You Can’t Imprison Belarus’ Future!”
Many passer-bys asked questions to the action participants, expressed their solidarity with the Belarusians. The drivers passing by signaled in support of the picket participants.
By the end of the action ambassador of Belarus in the USA Khvastou left the embassy’s building and moved towards his car. He didn’t respond to the Day of Solidarity participants’ shouting ”Long Live Belarus!” but he could not ignore the poster” Freedom to Kazulin!» which was leaned against the ambassador’s car.
“Despite of the 10 below zero outside, four hours and half provided for the action of solidarity easily flew away for the action participant thanks to the cheerful mood of the demonstrators and their optimism and strong belief in the free Belarus”, it is reported in the press-release of the ”We Remember” civil initiative.
