Workers of the Magiliou BelAZ branch went on strike
15:35, 20/02/2007

Workers stopped work due to unreasonable decrease of wages. Driven to despair the people dared a radical action-a strike.

But the strike was unprepared and unorganized. It was the trade union’s task to organize the action. They are given the money by working people for protection of the workers’ writes. But the trade unions have become the annex to management that is why they were of no help to the workers, Radio Ratsiya reports.

Finally in a day, on 17 February, the strike was forced to terminate. Nobody was fired and that was considered to be an indirect proof of the fact that the management had slightly gave in.

Half year ago the equipment was purchased for the steel foundry of BelAZ from Italy and Switzerland. It has not been adjusted, yet, but, nevertheless, it has been employed. That is why the rejected parts accounted for 50% of the output. The rejected parts have to be remelted and the process continues upon a vicious circle. Huge energy expenditures have been included into the cost of the output.

But the management of the enterprise has found the means of decreasing expenses and increasing the efficiency by reducing wages of the working people. Even those who had been engaged in remaking the rejected parts suffered the losses.
