Site Telegraf.by has placed the article of leader of the democratic forces of Belarus Alyaksandr Milinkevich where the policymaker dwells on the current situation in the democratic forces of Belarus.

Today the crisis of the coalition is absolutely obvious. But I am eager to achieve mutual understanding with the leaders of political parties. I have always wished that the Political Council of the democratic forces became the effective tool uniting all the democratic forces of Belarus. But, unfortunately, it wouldn’t happen. What are the reasons?

The joint democratic forces failed to join and form a real broad people’s movement. Within a year after the presidential election the coalition has not arranged any single serious action, lost the local elections. The major sphere of the Political Council’s activities are concerned with endless meetings and clearing up the attitudes. The envisaged Congress is not going to be the Congress of democratic forces. There are almost no non-party activists; no new persons have joint us after 2006 elections.

Today’s coalition has not become a serious alternative to the current authorities, because de facto the coalition does not exist. Before the presidential election the necessity of a personal alternative to Lukashenka was clear to everybody. Only the movement can provide the alternative with a single leader at the head, with a single platform, with a precise scheme of distribution of authorities and liabilities for solving definite tasks. But after the election the leaders of some parties decided that the single leader was not necessary, that “Milinkevich performed his part and has to quit. “, that is why they started insisting on the rotation principle of chairmanship of the Political Council.

Can I become a consolidator? If in the regions, than , certainly, yes. There is no division upon the party principle there. The people are eager to work together. Though much time has been wasted not everything has been lost, there remains a large potential for creation of the broad movement.

Today I am able of putting the final dot in the endless conflict and, meanwhile, I have a strong intention to gathering an effective team, organizing effective headquarters.

If certain party leaders do not want to work within the frame of a unified, precise and structured model, I am entitled to call regional public and party activists for joint actions. Participation of regional structures of parties in the movement doesn’t mean their quitting the parties.

Consolidation of forces is for the benefit of the parties themselves. Their joint efforts may attract new members and develop the structures, as it happened during the presidential campaign. The movement does not disturb but facilitates the parties` development and their international contacts extension.

The movement is not a party but a union of people aimed at joint efforts for improving their activities. “For Freedom” movement is nothing else but the consolidated democratic forces of Belarus because we unite all those who are for the democratic changes, for the European choice and the country’s independence not withstanding their party membership. The Consolidation has already started its way. Our nearest action is to become the Day of Freedom.

I am for the REAL consolidation .I am for the JOINT coalition. I am for the EFFECTIVE activity.
