Bogdan Borusiewicz: There is a chance for changing the situation in Belarus
11:31, 23/02/2007

Chairman of the Council of Poland sees the possibility for changing the situation in Belarus. According to Bogdan Borusiewicz, there is much evidence of the Belarusian authorities’ intentions to improve the relations with Poland. “Hopefully, political prisoner Alyaksandr Kazulin will be released. From my viewpoint, the situation in Belarus has started changing, mostly, due to the sharp conflict with Russia. We have also noticed implicit messages of the Belarusian authorities’ intentions to improve the relations with Poland”, Bogdan Borusiewicz reported to the Polish Radio.

However, the Senate has added that the steps should me made towards democratization of the life in Belarus and the political prisoners release.

The Polish policymaker considers that the chance for changing the situation in Belarus depends on the conflict between Minsk and Moscow. According to his assessment, the dictatorship in Belarus could exist exclusively due to the Russia’s support. Now without such support the situation is to change.

It is to be mentioned, that 21 February the Senate (the upper chamber of the Polish Parliament) unanimously adopted the resolution calling for immediate release of the Belarusian oppositionist and ex-candidate for the Belarusian presidency Alyaksandr Kazulin.
