Zmitser Dashkevich: Do not get perturbed about me 18:09, 23/02/2007
A leader of the “Young Front” Zmitser Dashkevich has written a letter from prison. As we have informed, the political prisoner is serving a 1.5 year sentence in Shklou medium security colony for “activities on behalf of an unregistered organization”.
The text of the letter is the following:
“Today is a very happy day. I have received a newspaper “Nasha Niva”, which is not torn. A special envelope of “Nasha Niva” should have been for that. Thank you very much!”
Everything is fine with me. I haven’t been invited to the administration for a fortnight, which continues to make me feel good. After a visit of my parents they started to give me back letters. By the way, today is the first time in a few months I saw my parents’ house in a dream. But it was a rather short and dimmish dream.
Do not worry about me. I feel perfectly well.
It helps a lot that many people support me here. Do not believe when “Sovetskaya Belorussia” writes that Belarusian people do not like opposition. My own experience shows that these people are giving clothes and food to opposition. To say the truth, I haven’t been expecting such friendliness on the part of prisoners. I had certain stereotypes about prison, about some motley horde, but it’s not necessarily so. About 20% of them have higher education. As for the work, officially I am a member of a brigade which makes meshwork, bags and so on. Out of hours I am engaged in self-education and write answers to letters. I won’t write about conditions and my adventures here deliberately, as I want give this letter a chance to get to the addressee”.
