Youth activist Dzyanys Dzyanysau’s location is still unknown
13:03, 26/02/2007

16 February the militia detained opposition activist Dzyanys Dzyanysau at the Gomel railway station and guarded him to an isolation ward .It is unknown whether any charge has been laid to him. According to his mother Raisa Dzyanysava, she was confirmed by phone that her son had been guarded to Vitsebsk. , but the Vitebsk isolation ward’s guard denies Dzyanysau’s presence there. The mother with a parcel to Dzyanys has been meeting all night trains from Gomel but her son was not brought, Radio Svaboda reports.

Friends and relatives consider that Dzyanysau was detained in connection with the criminal lawsuit brought against him by the Vitsebsk prosecutor’s office. The lawsuit was brought after many oppositional graffitis and leaflets appeared in Vitsebsk and youth activist Kristsina Shatikava installed a white-red-white flag over the summer amphitheatre. Then the court fined Shatikava of 5 million rubles.

Tatstsyna Dzyadok, Dzyanysau’s friend recalls that the militiamen detained Dzyanys right after Shatikava’s case hearing in the court.

“During Kristsina Shatikava ‘s lawsuit hearing Dzyanys remained in the courtroom. On leaving the court he was detained. After several hours spent in the cell he was released. They didn’t explain him anything, only searched his things and nothing else “, the girl told.

Later it became known that a criminal lawsuit was brought against Dzyanys Dzyanysau and another Vitsebsk activist Tatstsyna Elova, supposedly, for organizing a mass disorder in the public place (they were distributing leaflets with words ”Join Non-Violent Resistance. Act for Freedom of your country!” If Dzyanysau is declared guilty he will be threatened with three years of imprisonment.
