In Kobrin signatures are collected against erection of a temple named after Suvorov 17:48, 26/02/2007
Today in Kobrin the opposition activists have started explaining the grounds for erection of a so-called Suvorov’s temple to the population of the town. Simultaneously signatures have been collected against this project of the Orthodox Church.
“It has been decided to launch a campaign for informing, first of all, the population of Kobrin about this construction and about Suvorov himself and his role in Belarus. We have also started collected signatures of those people of Kobrin, who dislike the idea of naming the future church after Alexandr Suvorov”, chairman of the Brest regional organization of the BNF party Yuri Gubarevich reported to the Radio Svaboda.
Meanwhile, the oppositionists stress that they are not against the erection of church itself.
“Religious buildings of traditional confessions are normal for Belarus. But it is impossible to name the temple after a person who brought nothing but harm to Belarus”, Gubarevich says.
