Viktar Ivashkevich: I would have done it differently 17:17, 27/02/2007
Agitation materials at which white-red-white and red-green flags are depicted side by side, with the words “Day of Belarusian Unity” instead of “Liberty Day” has evoked widespread response. The United Civil party press-service has addressed a deputy chairman of the Belarusian Popular Front party and steering committee on Liberty Day celebration, Viktar Ivashkevich for comment.
“I would make the stickers you are talking about differently, without a red-green flag. And the steering committee makes different invitations which are to be distributed in the streets and through mailboxes. The stickers’ design hasn’t been agreed upon with the steering committee, like Milinkevich’s address to Lukashenka hasn’t been coordinated with us either”.
But these stickers do not cause any indignation or negative reaction, if you ask me. It’s a concept of a part of people who are taking part in preparation of the event, I mean Milinkevich supporters, and it’s a concept of reconciliation. Maybe it could have an effect on somebody…Moreover, only Milinkevich group and the Belarusian Popular Front are the only groups actively working for the event preparation. “The Address to the Belarusian nation” with an invitation for celebration, drafted by the committee, has been drawn up by the BPF. And Milinkevich’s supporters are making their steps which they find advisable,” Viktar Ivashkevich said.
Text on the sticker: “For Liberty! For Belarus! Minsk, March 25, 12.00, October Square, Day of Belarusian Unity”
