The International film festival of documentary films “One world” has started in the Czech Republic. It presents films dedicated to the topic of human rights protection. Next week Prague and 15 more Czech cities will have a chance to learn about the situation with human rights all over the world. As the Charter’97 press-center has been informed, organizes of the festival had invited to the festival Ina Kulej, the wife of the leader of the democratic forces of Belarus Alyaksandr Milinkevich. She is the chair of the Committee on defense of the repressed “Solidarity”. According to preliminary information, two films about Belarus are to be presented at the festival, “Ploshcha” (The Square) by Yury Khashchavatski and “A Lesson of Belarusian” by Mirek Debinski.
An organizer of the festival, a Czech humanitarian organization “Person in Need”, supports a struggle for human rights in 30 countries of the world.
“In 2007 we traditionally pay attention to key issues of the modern world, like Iraq, Afghanistan, Islamic countries. This year we want to draw attention to racism as well, and to Nazism which is getting increasingly well-organized with each year. We are also concerned with xenophobic and populist sentiments passing into policies of many countries. We highlight the topic of democracy; we want to tell how it is developed in traditionally democratic countries, like the USA, or in new democracies, Poland and the Czech Republic. On the other side, we want to show development pf democracy in Belarus or Cuba, where people have just started sensing freedom and fighting for their rights,” one of the founders of the International documentary film festival “One Wolrd” Igor Blazovic said.
