Belarusians Urge Ambassadors of Europe and US to Fight for Freedom of Belarusian Political Prisoners (Photo)
11:19, 28/02/2007

Belarusians who live in Warsaw started addressing Embassies of the EU countries, Russia, Ukraine, Canada and the US, 31 countries altogether, with an appeal to demand official Minsk to release the former presidential candidate Alyaksandr Kazulin and other political prisoners.

They started their visits to Embassies from Russian Embassy in Warsaw. However, Russian diplomats didn’t want to meet authors of the appeal. A guard took the document through the fence, Radio Svaboda informs.

The first secretary of the Ukrainian Embassy received the Belarusians, and in the US mission one of the Ambassador’s assistants came out to them.

An appeal to the US Embassy differed from other appeals as it contained a gratitude for earlier support of pro-democracy forces in Belarus.

“We urge you not to hold any negotiations with the last dictatorship of Europe, until all political prisoners released, free election held, freedom of media and political parties ensured,” the appeal reads.

Last week the Polish Senate approved the appeal to Belarusian authorities with a claim to release Alyaksandr Kazulin and other political prisoners immediately. Initiators of the action want other countries to bring pressure on Minsk as well.

“We demand release of all political prisoners, and primarily a former presidential candidate Mr. Kazulin,” told one of the participants of the action Ihar Kryshton.

Yesterday participants of the action visited embassies of Russia, Ukraine, the USA and Canada. Each day the petition is to be brought to 5-6 embassies.
