On March 2, 1942 in Minsk 5,000 Jews were killed by German Nazi. The extermination took place near Yubilejnaya Square, at the place known as “Yama”. Today, on the 65th anniversary of the tragedy representatives of the Belarusian union Jewish communities and organizations held a meeting in remembrance of Fascism victims.

Several days ago the first night of the” In Between” theatrical performance-a joint project of the Free Theatre and the European Humanitarian University (Vilnius) took place at one of the Minsk apartments.Tthe play consisting of dramatic scenes of students’ life of the “university in exile” was written and played by the students themselves with the Free Theatre ‘s support. An activist of the United Civil party Dzyanis Dzyanisau faces up to three years of imprisonment, Radio Svaboda informs. He is charged with organizing group actions violating public order. Dzyanis Dzyanisau is kept behind the bars for the third week.

Alyaksandr Lukashenka left for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Sunday. During the March 4-6 state visit, he is to hold talks with the UAE`s top-ranking leaders to discuss ways of "expanding bilateral cooperation in trade, economic and other areas of mutual interest," the Belarusian leader`s press office reported.

On March 2 a regular session of the Belarusian intelligentsia Rada (council) took place in Minsk. Participants of the council have addressed the authorities with an appeal “not to bring Belarus and its people to shame by confrontation on this sacred day, and not to put law-enforcing agencies representatives against citizens who would gather on the square to pay tribute to our statehood”. March 25 is to become a day which is “to remind about values worthy of our uniting on their basis”.

A deputy chairman of the Belarusian Popular Front party Alyaksandr Yanukevich has stated that he will come to Kalinouski Square on March 25 at 12.00 to celebrate the national holiday of Belarus, Freedom Day. “I will come as I am sure that for every patriot of Belarus, for every adherent of changes, there are no more important affairs then to come to Kalinouski Square on March 25. Our work for the good of Belarus could be different o every other day. But on Independence Day on March 25 your place is on the square, no matter what your mission is. On March 25 Belarus needs you on Kalinouski square,” Yanukevich said.

On March 4 a visit of a delegation of Belarusian democratic forces to the U.S. has finished. The delegation consisted of the leader of the Belarusian Popular Front party Vintsuk Vyachorka, the chairman of the United Democratic party Anatol Lyabedzka, First Secretary of the Party of Communists of Belarus Syarhei Kalyakin, a wife of the political prisoner Iryna Kazulina and a chairman of a working group of the Non-governmental Organizations Assembly Syarhei Matskevich. They arrived to the U.S. on February 27.
