Dzyanis Dzyanisau Faces up to Three Years of Imprisonment
13:51, 05/03/2007

An activist of the United Civil party Dzyanis Dzyanisau faces up to three years of imprisonment, Radio Svaboda informs. He is charged with organizing group actions violating public order. Dzyanis Dzyanisau is kept behind the bars for the third week.

On March 2 an activist Dzyanis Dzyanisau was visited by lawyer Pyotar Kavalenka in Vitsebsk remand prison. As said by him, Dzyanisau is presented charges under Article 342:

“He is charged with organizing actions violating public order and counteracting authorities by alleged printing leaflets and posters,” the lawyer said.

According to the lawyer, the actions mentioned in the case of Dzyanisau, took place on June 18, 2006 in Vitsebsk. A group of youth activists of an unregistered organization “Bunt” tried to hold an oppositional rally. Activists unfurled a white-red-white flag.

A criminal action for Dzyanisau’s participation in that episode was brought up in October last year. Dzyanis Dzyanisau was detained in a train on February 16 on his way to Homel. First the activist was kept in Homel remand prison, and then he was taken to Vitsebsk remand prison No.2.

As told by the lawyer Pyotar Kavalenka, Dzynisau is treated rather well in the remand prison, “he is not complaining about bad conditions”. The lawyer told that his client hadn’t pleaded guilty. “We are to demand alteration of conditions for Dzyanis,” the lawyer said. Mr. Kavalenka believes there are good prospects in defence of his client.
