The International Festival of documentaries on the subject of human rights protection was held in Prague from March 1 to 8. “Lesson of the Belarusian Language” documentary of Polish director Miroslaw Dembinski got two prizes at the festival. The Council of the European Union is to extend sanctions against Belarus, the press-service of the EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana informs. “Sanctions against representatives of the Belarusian regime are to be extended,” a representative of Solana’s press-service told on Monday. Lawyer Igar Rinkevich met his client, former candidate for the presidency of Belarus Alyaksandr Kazulin in the Vitebsk prison #3 March 7. According to the lawyer, the regimen for political prisoner coming out of hunger strike was cancelled. It is to be mentioned that Kazulin had been on a hunger strike for 53 days. Leaders of strike committee Valery Levaneuski and Alyaksandr Vasilyeu have been detained today morning on their way to Minsk, where a meeting of businessmen is planned. Levaneuski and Vasilyeu have been detained by traffic policemen when they left Hrodna. As the Charter’97 press-center has been informed by Valery Levaneuski, policemen stated that his car had been registered as stolen. Later this accusation was lifted, but the entrepreneurs were taken to the Interior Affairs department of Hrodna region.
