16:48, 13/03/2007

General secretary of the Christian Democratic Union (a ruling party in Germany) Ronald Pofalla is certain that the issue of decreasing the cost of entry visas for Belarusians will be positively solved in the German Bundestag .In his letter to leader of the democratic forces of Belarus Alyaksandr Milinkevich the General Secretary of the CDU reported that the Belarusian visa issue was under discussion in the fraction of the CDU/CSU in Bundestag.

“I have persistently promoted such solution of the visa issue which will provide better financial conditions for entry visa granting to Belarusians, particularly to the Belarusian youth. I am certain that the issue will be positively solved”, Ronald Pofalla remarked in his letter to Alyaksandr Milinkevich.

Ronald Pofalla also stressed that development of the situation in Belarus was paid particular attention to by the German authorities. According to him, the situation in Belarus constantly remains a subject of his talks with Angela Merkel.

Decrease of entry visas cost for Belarusians is among the priorities of the European policy of Alyaksandr Milinkevich who many times appealed to the European Union for not increasing the Shengen visa cost for Belarusians.

“The majority of Belarusians badly need free contacts with the West. Expensive visas become a sort of the ”iron shield”. And such policy only favors A. Lukashenka’s regime. He constantly scares Belarusians saying ”nobody is waiting for us in the West”, leader of the democratic forces of Belarus Alyaksandr Milinkevich considers.
