Lukashenka to visit Kiev after 25 March :: Charter'97 :: News

6 March president of Ukraine Victor Yuschenko announced that in a week he was going to meet Alyaksandr Lukashenka. But the meeting didn’t happen in a week. Now Lukashenka is in Sochi. on vacation. This week Yuschenko participated in the celebration of Shevchenko’s birthday and is going to Denmark.

Spokesman for the Ukrainian President Larisa Mudrik declared to Nasha Niva that at the moment the visit has not been agreed ,yet , though there is a working group that is to appoint the visit. “It is too early to dwell on the supposed day of the visit”, she remarked.

The intermediation of the Ukraine in the talks between Belarus and the West was envisaged. There is also a version that the meeting of Yuschenko with Lukashenka has been postponed until 25 March on the request of the European diplomacy. The manifestation will show how ready the Belarusian government is for denial of the repressions against dissidents (it is the condition of the West for the dialogue).

The second version of postponing the visit was sounded by the Moscow political scientists: the official Minsk is waiting for Russia’s reply concerning the credit and for this reason Belarus has not been interested, yet, in the visit to Ukraine.
