Russia makes meat import arrangements more severe 18:28, 02/04/2007
“A decision has been adopted to allow deliveries of meat and meat foods to Russia only from Belarusian enterprises certified by Russian vet experts” told Sergei Dankvert, a representative of the Federal Agency for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision to Interfax.
As said by him, the Russian Federal Agency for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision is to consider results of examinations carried out by its experts at 23 meat processing and 2 fish processing enterprises. A list of Belarusian plants given a right to export products to Russia would be made.
As said by S. Dankvert, experts have also checked work of meat access gate at the border with Poland. “Meat deliveries from Poland during a ban from Russia were checked as well, and its processing by berlarusian enterprises was traced,” he noted.
The Russian Federal Agency for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision states that 32,000 tons of meat were imported to Belarus from Poland last year. Part of this meat could have been imported to Russia as prepared meat. Russia banned meat import from Poland in autumn 2005 because the Polish side had violated Russian veterinary requirements.
As said by S. Dankvert, “the enterprises that processed Polish meat would be the last to be considered for certification”.
