Authorities Felt Concern about «Development» of Civil Society :: Charter'97 :: News

Council for interaction of the local self-government bodies at the “so-called” Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus has been established. According to the Interfax correspondent, at the 7th sitting of the Council of the Republic which was opened in Minsk on Monday members of the Council of the Republic unanimously adopted the resolution on establishment of the Council for interaction of the local self-government bodies and approved its regulation.

Chairman of the Council of the Republic Genadz Navitsky has been appointed chairman of the Council for interaction of the local self-government bodies. The Council is to consist of 25 members.

Head of the Administration of President of Belarus Genadz Nyaviglas considers that the Council for interaction of the local self-government bodies will facilitate development of the civil society.

“Establishment of the Council for interaction of the local self-government bodies at the Council of the Republic will provide more effective development of the civil society in Belarus”,
Head of the President’s administration declared at the 7th sitting of the Council of the Republic which was opened in Minsk on Monday.

According to him, the Council is aimed at enforcement of the role of local bodies , coordination of work of the local soviets of deputies as well as set-up of information system of feedback from the local divisions for the head of the state and government to be aware of the situation all over the republic. In the opinion of Genadz Nyaviglas, establishment of the Council for interaction of the local self-government bodies ”is to become the key event for the society”.

“Establishment of the Council and its functioning will facilitate creation and functioning of the more normalized system of bodies of the representative power in the country”, Genadz Nyaviglas said.

Chairman of commission of the Council of the Republic on regional development and local self-government Anatol Malapheyau stressed that the Council “ will not be powerfully authorized and will have the status of public organization and work as a panel body ”.
