Anatol Lyabedzka: "I Would Call That Spring Exacerbation"
13:10, 03/04/2007

The leader of the United Civil Party Anatol Lyabedzka comments to the Charter’97 press-center the arrest of the former deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the 13th convocation, a member of the United Civil party Andrei Klimau: “For us an arrest of the UCP member Andrei Klimau is another episode of repressions carried out be the authorities. Only this year we had three outrageous examples of outright political repressions. First Dzyanis Dzyanisau was arrested, and now no lawyer could explain why this young man stays in prison. The episode with Krystsina Shatsikava is a return of punitive psychiatry of Stalin and Brezhnev times. And now is Andrei Klimau’s turn. I would call that a spring exacerbation. When street political protests are growing, the hand of the regime reaches after handcuffs. We have been observing that for 13 years, and nothing has changed in 2007. The regime doesn’t like independent and all-sufficient people who could influence others”.
