Left Parties and Trade Unions Can Celebrate May 1 Together 17:32, 05/04/2007
The Belarusian Radio and Electronics Workers’ Union (REWU) plans to mark May Day, the Day of the International Solidarity of Workers, by a demonstration and a meeting. The trade union has submitted an appeal to Minsk city executive committee, www.praca-by.info reports. Activists plan to gather near the Academy of Science at 11 a.m. and march in a column down to Bangalore Square where a meeting would be held. The application for holding celebrations on May 1 has been also submitted by the steering committee of the Union of Left Forces, told one of the leaders of REWU Alyaksandr Bukhvostau.
As the Charter’97 press-center has informed, the Union of the Left Forces plans to start the rally on May 1 at 11 a.m. near the Academy of Science. At 12 noon the demonstration is to march along Independence Avenue, Surhanau Street, to the Park of Friendship of Nations, where a meeting and open-air celebrations are to take place. Alyaksandr Bukhvostau and Syarhei Kalyakin are responsible for public order.
Mr. Bukhvostau informed that negotiations with the Belarusian Congress of Democratic Trade Unions and with organizations of vendors are held to have a joint plant of the holiday.
