Klimau refused to give evidence in his case 15:47, 05/04/2007
Radio Svaboda has been informed about that by lawyer Katsyaryna Dudko, who provided services of a lawyer to Andrei Klimau, when he was presented accusation. The lawyer said that while getting acquainted with the charges “Klimau was calm and he stated that he refuses to give evidence and cooperate with the investigation”. Katsyaryna Dudko withheld comments on the essence of the charges against A. Klimau.
As we have informed, a former deputy Andrei Klimau was detained on April 3 on charges related to calls to overthrow the state order.
The prosecutor of Minsk prosecutor’s office Anatol Hadun hadn’t informed about the conditions in which the former deputy Andrei Klimau is kept. The officer on duty of Minsk remand prison in Valadarski Street in Minsk has refused to answer this question either.
Earlier Klimau has spent 4 years in prison. He was convicted with committing economic crimes. The politician believes he had been accused for active participation in the campaign for Lukashenka’s impeachment. In 2005 the court of Tsentralny district of Minsk sentenced Klimau to a year and a half of imprisonment for staging a street rally on March 25. In December 2006 he was released.
In total Klimau has spent 5.5 years in prison. The politician was recognized a prisoner of conscience.
