Regime of Transition from Hunger Strike Prolonged for Kazulin 12:45, 09/04/2007
The regime of transition from a hunger strike has been prolonged for the political prisoner Alyaksandr Kazulin. This regime allows the politician to have special clinical nutrition and not to work, however he is to follow all other requirements of prison discipline.
Kazulin’s attorney Ihar Rynkevich notes that prison regime after the hunger strike haven’t allowed his client to gain in weight lost during the long hunger strike. A month after Kazulin was forbidden to receive food parcels from home, he gained only one kilogram.
“It is worth mentioning that from the very beginning doctors warned that transition from such a long hunger strike could last until summer if he were at large. But he is not at large, not in a sanatorium, but in a colony. That is why it is hard to predict what would happen next. I would like to emphasize that there are no positive changes o far,” the lawyer said to Radio Svaboda.
As we have informed, the politician was on hunger strike in prison for 53 days. He demanded to bring up the problem of Belarus in the UN Security Council. Alyaksandr Kazulin was sentenced to 5.5 years of imprisonment for organising a protest rally on March 25, 2006.
