Klimau Placed to Ward Where He Was Kept During Last Arrest 17:20, 09/04/2007
The political prisoner Andrei Klimau has sent first letters from Minsk remand prison where he had been placed after the arrest on April 3.
The wife of the politician Tatsyana Klimava has informed Radio Svaboda that she had received 2 her husband’s letters from prison. “The letters have generally private character. I wouldn’t quote them. Andrei writes almost nothing about prison life,” the wife of the politician said.
But she informed about some facts:
“Well, he has written that he had been placed to the same ward where he had been placed earlier, but I do not know where exactly. During his earlier stays in the remand prison in Valadarski Street he had been transferred to different wards many times”.
Tatsyana Klimava is worried the events of 1998 not to repeat for her husband, when he was placed to a ward with rather hash conditions:
“People whom investigators tried to bring down and get confession from. It have been done after conspiring with administration of the remand prison”.
Last week Tastyana Klimava brought food and clothes parcel to her husband in prison. A prisoner is allowed to get 2 parcels a month, 15 kilograms each. The second parcel Tatsyana plans to bring in the end of the month.
An investigator of Minsk prosecutor’s office Anatol Hadun who investigates the case of Andrei Klimau, denies comments as before. The officer on duty of Minsk remand prison does not give details about conditions of A. Klimau’s detention either.
Earlier A. Klimau served more than 4 years of detention on charges related to economic crimes, and later a year and a half of corrective labour for staging street rally. Thus, the politician has spent 5.5 years in prison.
This time Andrei Klimau is charged with appeals to overthrow the regime. The politician faces 3 years of imprisonement, however he does not plead guilty. According to the lawyer Katsyaryna Dudko, he refuses to take part in investigatory actions.
